Updating the post counts on the taxonomy filter when

Would it be possible to have the numbers in the taxonomy filter update according to the search results?

It doesn’t make sense to have the number of all of the posts in the category when it’s a filter;

I feel that this is a feature that should be in place by default, as it is currently confusing for end users.

I am not sure what you are asking, but it is possible you mean should the numbers not update as the filter is changed? The Auto Count options (2 of them on the General Tab) should do that, as should hiding zero results on each form field.
