Search filter not behaving correctly on multiple checkbox search

Hi!
No doubt my own ignorance, but I’m having issues with search results
This is our scenario
We have 4 different category fields with different groups of categories – Company, Sector, Report type – there is also a separeate category fileld for news
These are all checkboxes using the AND Search Operator
An example search might be that a user ticks something something from xategory fields 1, 2 and 3
So say:
Company – Alibaba
Sector – Fintech
Report type – Survey

Now in this case there are no posts that have these 3 categories so no results should be shown – however, a post with the category of fintech is showing

I’m obviously getting myself into a muddle with AND/OR etc but I can’y work out how to get it to show results as I want

An indication of this is that a checkbox search for Alibaba & Fintech shows a url of advanced-search/?_sft_category=fintech rather than advanced-search/?_sft_category=fintech&Alibaba

Any ideas? I know its my own ignorance!

When we are searching within the same category field, the results come up correctly – ie advanced-search/?_sft_category=advertising+ecommerce but I need to be able to combine results some different cateory fields

You are correct. You need to move taxonomy terms to new taxonomies. Find one of my posts that talks about a plugin called taxonomy switcher.

Hi Trevor, sorry for the late reply – in the end we’ve decided to go for a simpler category search that only involves using one category field
