    Hi guys,

I currently use S&F Pro on my live site, and am working on a development site for a revamped version which will incorporate Woocommerce.

The search form I want is fairly simple, it’s pretty much the same as the one on my live site here: http://houseplansdirect.co.uk/search-house-designs/.

I’ve set it up so that ‘House Type’ is a product category, ‘No. of Bedrooms’ is an attribute and so is ‘Features’. But I can’t get it to return the correct results, even though I have used basically the same set up but amended to use Woocommerce products rather than posts.

    My questions are:

    1. I seem to be getting the same results returned no matter what combination of boxes I tick, including product categories that should be excluded (I have tried specifically excluding them, and then only including the categories I want but no joy). What am I doing wrong?

    2. Prior to setting up the search form, when you clicked on ‘Shop’ it just showed the subcategories, as I had set it up in Woocommerce. Now it shows results for a blank search. Can I override this so it shows the subcategories again as I had it before?

The development site URL is http://staging.houseplansdirect.co.uk/

    Thanks

    Andy

    Hi Andy

It is late here, so my next reply might be in the morning. It might be easier for me to see the setup in the admin, so is it possible for you to send me a private reply with admin logins?

The real site has that search page, but not the staging site? I can see that you have Maintain Search Form State enabled, which I would not, and Enable Auto Count off whereas I would have this ON.

You also have the form restricted to products with just those four categories attached.

I also note that the Results Container is set to #content but when I look at the results page, that div also includes the search form, which is not allowed, so changing the results container to .search-filter-results in this case might also help.

Hi Trevor, thanks for getting back to me.

I didn’t set up a specific ‘Search’ page on the staging site as ideally, I’d like people to be able to filter results when they are in category pages of the shop – for example, if they know they’re interested in bungalows and go to that category page, they will get 16 results. But if they only want to look at 2 bedroom bungalows, or ones with an integral garage, I’d like them to be able to filter the irrelevant products out.

With the non-house design products, I don’t want the filter on there at all as it won’t be relevant, hence why I limited it to just those four categories.

I don’t know if what I want it achievable so will rely on your superior knowledge of what will work. If you think it would be better to replicate the Search page from the original site, I’m happy to do that.

    Thanks

    Andy

Did you try changing the settings as suggested?

Yep, I made those changes, rebuilt the cache and cleared the cache on my site but still getting what looks like the same set of results unfortunately.

    mmm

OK, well, I will need to be able to play, so as to setting the search page up on staging, yes please.

    Hi Trevor,

Ok so I have replicated the Search page at http://staging.houseplansdirect.co.uk/search-house-designs/

and now it appears the correct search results are being returned after a few quick tests. I’ve got it returning results using a shortcode as per the live site, the only issue is the layout but from memory that was fixed easily enough when I set it up on the live site.

So am I right in thinking that S&F won’t work with Woocommerce the way I’ve described?

    Thanks

    Andy

    Hi Andy

What is different about the live and staging? The way you set up attributes etc?
