    Hi There,

I am returning to this plugin after a short absence. Before I consider renewing the license. I need to get it working properly on my site.

I can get the plugin working for the shortcode option but not the ‘post type archive’ feature.
I have tried it on the TwentyFifteen theme as well but still no joy.
I have disabled all other plugins just in case there was a conflict.

It won’t work with or without AJAX.

Here is the post archive page I want it to work on: http://sakenotabibito.com/category/brewery-visits/

With AJAX turned on, the #content section refreshes but just shows the same posts as before and the search form gets greyed out.
If I turn off AJAX, I get a page not found error.

The same thing happens in the Twenty Fifteen theme.

If I turn off the dynamic autocount fearure, the count shows 0 on all tags.

I was wondering if it has anything to do with the way my permalinks are set up because that is the only thing I can think of that stays the same between themes.

Thanks in advance for your help, this one has me stumped.

    Hey Christopher

I think you are trying to use it on a Category archive, to search within a category archive, as opposed to a “Post Type Archive”

A post type archive would usually be something like:

    http://sakenotabibito.com/?post_type=post

    or

    http://sakenotabibito.com/?post_type=downloads

and this may be rewritten to:

    http://sakenotabibito.com/downloads/

S&F can work with this, but not as you mention above.

I am planning to add this to the next version of S&F

There is a fairly complicated workaround to achieve a similar effect if you’re interested in the pointers?

    Thanks

Hi Ross, as always thank you for the super quick reply. I can see that you are wading through a swamp of support requests on this forum so it is very much appreciated.

As I suspected, my interpretation of the post-type-archive was a little skewed, but then that is my newbie-like ignorance to blame. I think I will keep it simple and look at other options but thank you for the offer to guide me through the workaround.

I have switched to the archive layout, removed any eroneous non-standard-loop queries from the site template as your FAQ stipulates to and somehow got the search field working. Unfortunately, the tags and category dropdowns etc don’t want to play ball. They keep showing 0. If I turn off dynamic counting, they show the count that they should do but after reading a similar post on this forum I think I understand why that is, at any rate, regardless of the count, it shows no results.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Hey Christopher

I took a quick look, if the counts say ‘0’ it usually means the cache has not finished building.

Can you edit your search form and hit “rebuild” cache – then leave it on that screen until it says its completed?

    Thanks

    Hey Ross,

I see that makes sense. I tried rebuilding the cache many times but it is not fixing the problem.
I have even just setup a new form from scratch in case the form was broken.
One thing I am noticing is that when the cache is rebuilding, it briefly displays this error on a pink background: Running background processes failed in this environment… is this an error?

Also, I think the cache rebuild finishes way too quickly so there might be something wrong there.

    Hey Ross,

    Good news!
I managed to fix the problem myself.

The fix: I simply added the index.php file that was being used as default by the plugin to display the results into the custom template field and clicked ‘use custom template’. I must have read over your FAQ and the email correspondence from last time a dozen times but for some reason it never occured to me to try that … DOH! In a way, the fix this time was similar to last time. . Apologies that I could not fix it myself sooner.

    Everything is working as promised.

    Thanks again for your help.

Feel free to mark as resolved 🙂
