Clarification on Developers License

In the description of the licenses, it says that the license is only valid for a year from the date of purchase. Is this the case with both single site and developers licenses?

So if I purchase a developers license with the expectation of needing this plugin for future projects, I will need to renew my developers license each year in order for my clients to be able to update the plugin?

That is correct. The renewal is at a discount though.
