Hi. I’ve implemented the search form and the results on a home page; categories can be selected by checkbox. Everything works fine except that as initially all posts are displayed, it would seem normal that all the categories checkboxes would be selected by default, e.g. that the user wanting to filter the results has to de-check unwanted categories.
Is it a bug or is there a way to choose “selected by default” or something like that ?

It works the other way round, as some posts may not (in theory) have any categories assigned, and by checking all the categories, that would exclude those posts. So, all posts show, and if you select a category, only posts with that category will show. This is quite normal behavior for search/filter engines.
So, it is the expected behavior, and would be expected by site users. It cannot be changed.
