    Hey all.

I’d like users to drill down with the facets, each option clicked resulting in irrelevant options being eliminated.

    –General Settings–
    Auto Submit: On
    Field Relationship: AND
    Enable Autocount: On
Update The Search Form On User Interaction: On

    –Category Facet–
    Checkboxes
    Search Operator: AND
    Display Count: True
    Hide Empty: True
    Hierarchical: True
Include Children In Parents: False (want it to be true, but enabling it turns the Search Operator to OR)

    Categories are:
    Heart Disease
    – Cause (cause-heart-disease)
    Cancer
    -Cause (cause-cancer)

    –Authors Facets (Custom Taxonomy)–
    Ditto above

Because Include Parents In Children is disabled, the Categories facet shows

    Cause (1)
    Cause (1)

    Author1 (1)
    Author2 (1)

Guessing which ‘Cause’ to click does the desired removal of the irrelevant other Cause & Author2, but how can I have this while still showing things hierarchically, so users know which Cause is which?

Do you have a link I could look at?

    Thanks

    Hi Ross,

It’s local only so far, but what do you need to see (attached some images)?

    Startup Page, No Filters
    First Cause Clicked
    Cause & James AB Clicked

    hey there

    Thanks for this.

I just wanted to get a better understanding of what you are trying to achieve.

Could you also supply a screenshot of the “ideal” scenario / layout, with hierarchical enabled?

    Thanks

    Thanks Ross.

    This is the ideal.

    Ideal

    achieved by
    – General > Field Relation > AND
    – Each taxonomy using OR & Include Children In Parents enabled

When clicking Cause (of Cancer), two results remain (fine).
Cause Of Cancer Clicked, Stays Like This When Also Selecting James AB

But when also clicking James AB (to try & filter Cause Of Cancer AND James AB), it goes faint coloured then returns to the initial Cancer Cause clicked screen with two results & James AB deselected. This is seemingly because the taxonomies have OR as operator, but it’s so far either:

    i) OR as operator with hierarchy, or
ii) AND as operator, without hierarchy (because the plugin won’t let me choose both, but this is what I want)

    Hi Ross,

From the description it seemed like this plugin would do the desired out of the box, but unfortunately doesn’t. Under the Consumer Rights Act I’d like to get a refund if that’s alright, plus it’ll free up your weekend more.

    Regards

    Hi Eddie

Please note our refund policy which you have agreed to on purchase.

If there is something faulty that makes it unusuable then of course we can issue a refund, but our policy first states that you must allow us to investigate teh issue first and try to fix, which is also stated on the link you sent.

What you are describing I don’t think is even a problem with the plugin, its the nature of how relationships must work – I was going to take the time to go over this and analyse to see if it needs to be fixed or if there is some rational behind it that I can’t yet remember.

As mentioned, I’ll be in touch over this weekend when I’ve had a chance to look further.

    Thanks

I had a look, and it was basically a bug/artefact from the old ways we used to do queries.

Previously we used to use only the WP_Query api, and that had this limiting factor, whive we integrated into our UI.

Since then, we’ve completely changed how queries are performed and this overcomes this limitation. I’ve just emailed you a copy of S&F with this fix in it for you.

Let me know how you get on.

    Thanks
