    Make sure you have no ‘Draft’ or ‘Trash’ posts, and find a plugin that will remove all revisions from the the database, in other words, a database cleanup tool. Then rebuild the cache in the form.

    Then, add the option in the ACF field definition, without deleting the old one, THEN do the changes, check our form in the front end to make sure the term has gone, then remove the old term from the ACF field group definition.
