Just adding in and joining this thread as I have the same issue, but Ross’ last replies are private and I was wondering if there is a resolution to this? I have the same issue. It’s occurring on my local dev server, a clean WP install with only a few core developer plugins. Just to detail exactly what happens to me:

    1) Go to Search & Filter main page -> /wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=search-filter-widget
    2) Click add new search form.
    3) Error message below appears.
    4) Name the form and hit publish the error goes away.

Only thing I wondered is if it was maybe a PHP 7.1 issue? That’s what I’m running. Using Search & Filter Pro 2.3.3.

    Error Messages:
Warning: Illegal string offset ‘results_url’ in C:\websites\testwp\wp-content\plugins\search-filter-pro\includes\class-search-filter-helper.php on line 235

Warning: Cannot assign an empty string to a string offset in C:\websites\testwp\wp-content\plugins\search-filter-pro\includes\class-search-filter-helper.php on line 235

NOTE: this error message appears both at the top of the page and in the Shortcodes meta box in my WP admin sidebar

Hey Trevor, have you updated to latest WP? I’ve seen this as an issue of WP between versions so it could be that.

We didn’t resolve it in the private replies, the trail went cold.

Unfortunately, seems that is not it. 🙁 Both the fresh WP test install I mentioned and later in the day the site I’m currently building also using this plugin are both on 4.7.4 and both had the same error.

Hey Trevor just to let you know I’ve not forgotten about this.

I’m aiming to check and apply a fix next week.

Can you try one thing first though – edit all your search forms, and click “update” without changing any settings in them.

    Thanks

No worries, it’s not a pressing issue so I understand.

I’m not sure what your suggestion is attempting to do unfortunately. Just to clarify you only see this error when you go to “Add New Search Form”. Once I create the form and click Publish I never see it again. Just wanted to make sure that was clear before you went into trying to patch this.
