I’ve purchased two licenses now and am working on an existing site which we have taken off line and placed on another server so the license key isn’t working! Any chance we can simply extend one of these to a developer license and then never both you about it again?!

You can upgrade any of your licenses to developer via Your Account -> view licenses
However, if you have a single site license you are able to use it in dev environment and then go live – also via Your Account you can choose “manage sites” and here you can de-register your dev site…
