Sort not really working properly

Hello all – would be very grateful if you can help. My website is here: https://stunninghikes.com/

The search form is in the sidebar on the right, at the bottom. The filters are working correctly. I added the sort functionality, but this does not seem to work.

For example, choose to sort by Difficulty (difficult first). The hikes are simply not sorted correctly. If you choose to filter by Difficulty = 5, then you will see 3 hikes have this highest level of difficulty. But these 3 hikes do not appear at the top when sorting by Difficulty (difficulty first).

The sort which seems to work are
– Time (shortest first)
– Time (longest first)
– Distance (shortest first)
– Ascent (least first)

All others dont work

Also, I have noticed that when I choose Distance (longest first) then the sort Ascent (most first) then appears in the sort list box once the search is complete.

For the sort “Ascent (most first)” I also notice, the url is incorrect (which is probably why the sort does not work). If I manually edit the url, then the sort does work.

For the sort “Difficulty (difficult first)”, the url is correct but the sort still does not work.

Note, all sort options are based on Taxonomies.

Sorry, got it wrong. Time, Distance and Ascent use Post Meta data types. Difficulty uses Taxonomy.
