    Hi Trevor,

    Hope you’re well?

We moved the site to a new VPS earlier today. However there were problems with some categories not displaying the correct number of products. I have switched DNS back to the old server for now while we figure out what is wrong.

I checked Search and filter and noticed this https://ibb.co/n68b4kG in Settings & Defaults.

I tried to run *Rebuild Cache* but nothing happened, the timer spun for 2 seconds and stopped.

So I checked the settings and turned off *Use Background Processes*, I was then able to start the rebuild: https://ibb.co/DRL7qJQ

Is there anything specific in the server that needs to be turned on, such as PHP modules or similar. We’ve been baffled by this today.

    Thanks
    Warreb

It could be any number of things. I assume our Status page does not show any issues?

It is why I tend to avoid VPSs and now buy hosting from companies like Kinsta and Cloudways, where they have 1 click installs and I don’t have issues like these with their server stacks.

Thanks Trevor, yes there are all green ticks on your status page.

I am going to ask Kualo to redo the migration, something went wrong somewhere.

I’m just curious why I had to turn off *Use Background Processes* in the settings in order for the cache to rebuild. Do you have any idea why that might be?

    Thanks
    Warren

All I can say is that for some reason wp_remote_get() is failing, and it will be a server configuration issue.

Thanks Trevor, I’ve alerted Kualo to this.

    Many thanks

OK, if you get a resolution, do let me know.

Hi Trevor, the problems are caused by the ElastSearch plugin.

When its activated it messes with the product display. For example items in the categories *Archive – Sold Items*, *uncategorised* and *uncategorized* are excluded from showing up. But when ElasticSearch is activated they all appear. Please see short screencast below:

    https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/crVrQ69v1H

The video below shows the results on the live site (VPS) which has ElasticSearch deactivated and a cloned dev test site (Trifo) which has it activated:

    https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/crVrjf9USV

As you can see products from the categories I have excluded in Search & Filter are visible when they shouldn’t be. Therefore ElasticSearch is ignoring S&F settings.

So we’re not going to use ElasticSearch for now and I just thought I’d make you aware of the issue with that plugin. The developers at ElasticPress are not much help either 🙁

    Thanks Trevor
    Warren

Had you already followed the advice in this post:

    https://support.searchandfilter.com/forums/topic/algolia-vs-elastic-search-vs-search-filter-pro/#post-227596

I have to say, setting up ElasticSearch on a server is not easy, and keeping its index up to date even harder.

Is it OK to close this thread for now?

Thanks Trevor and no I didn’t try that, ElasticSearch just seems too flaky and I’ve already spent a load of time trying to get it to actually work, I haven’t got the headspace anymore.

Yes please go ahead and close this ticket.
    Cheers
    Warren
