Hi
I have set up a custom post type and added custom taxonomies and custom fields.
I can search and filter these using drop down searches and it works perfectly.I have added to my site a simple search form just containing just the search text box and a submit button. I intended to use this as a quick search (as the main search form is quite big). However using the search box does not return results for values in the custom taxonomies or custom fields.
For example, I have a custom post type for documents. The author’s name is stored in a custom taxonomy, but when I search for a name (that I know is in the database) using the search text box I do not get any results returned.
Is there a setting I have missed? Is it possible to search custom taxonomies and custom fields using the text search box.
Many thanks
Matt
Trevor(Private) September 9, 2019 at 3:15 pm #220518The Search & Filter Pro Text Search field uses the standard WordPress search, so looks only in the Post Title AND Content. To help you control this better, on the form’s Advanced settings tab you will see 2 settings for Relevanssi.
The documentation for this is here:
https://www.designsandcode.com/documentation/search-filter-pro/3rd-party/relevanssi/
You would need to install and activate the free Relevanssi plugin as well.
Then set Relevanssi up (to look also at Tags) and build its index (make sure it is indexing the desired post types AND the categories/tags/taxonomies/custom fields that you want to search). You can also select to search ONLY the titles, OR the content, and no taxonomies or custom fields.
