I posted a ticket a few days ago and have not had a reply.
I have installed the plug-in and it all seems to be working correctly except that it doesn’t display any results at all!
Here’s the test page I have set up – http://belinda1.staging.wpengine.com/search_test
There are definitely posts and authors that match the terms and categories I have specified.
The search.php in the theme I am using (Total) refers to
if ( ‘blog’ == wpex_search_results_style() ) : ?> which doesn’t seem to match any of the terms mentioned in your FAQs?Ross Moderator(Private) April 13, 2015 at 2:21 pm #14973Hi Nick
Apologies but we are not open on weekends
In addition I changed host this weekend (wpengine!) But my DNS still hasnt refreshed from my work connection..
I’m having to access this via my phone…
Once I’m.back up and running I’ll take a look, but at first glance it sounds like you’ll have to do some digging around in your theme.
If your comfortable with HTML/CSS I would recommend to using a shortcode to display results (I doubt you’ll get this issue).
Thanks
Anonymous(Private) April 13, 2015 at 3:39 pm #14981Thanks for getting back to me Ross.
Welcome to WPEngine! I’ve started using them too and have nothing but praise for their service so far.
In fact, I did wonder if it was their system that was interfering with your plug-in, but, I assume, if you’re moving to them too, it’s probably not an issue.
Is there any chance that the filter doesn’t work on a ‘staging’ server?
I’ll try the short code as well as a ‘live’ server this afternoon to see if I can get any more details.
Anonymous(Private) April 13, 2015 at 4:45 pm #14983Test results – your plug-in works OK on another site I have using a different template (although it’s by the same author) and on a non-wpengine server.
However, it doesn’t work on another site using the Total template on the wpengine server.
So, it may be an issue with the ‘Total’ template – or the wpengine server!
Ross Moderator(Private) April 13, 2015 at 5:55 pm #14984Hey Nick
If you have your site behind a password then it might not work – but other than that it should be fine.
There are also plugins which lock down security settings on admin pages, but I find some of them too restrictive as they also treat
wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
as protected, and therefor prevent ajax requests. If you check our demo sites (links: http://www.designsandcode.com/wordpress-plugins/search-filter-pro/), they are hosted by WPEngine and I didn’t have to do anything extra to get them working.
As mentioned in the FAQs, some themes create their own queries to load regular post and archive pages (agains WP Standards really, but there are logical reasons for this) – you can either try to modify your theme/templates to edit out this query (this is something you’d have to figure out) or you can use the shortcode method for displaying results which is covered in the docs – which should work regardless of theme – but does not provide seamless integration with the the layout of theme.
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks
Anonymous(Private) April 14, 2015 at 12:57 pm #15052Hi Ross.
Thanks for your advice – the chortling does, indeed, work – hooray!
I’m going to add a lot more posts now so that I can test it more thoroughly (hard to see a filter working when there’s only one post!).
Is there an obvious way to style the user interface? Or does that reflect the theme template?.
Ross Moderator(Private) April 14, 2015 at 2:46 pm #15060Hey Nick
If you mean the search form, you may only customise this using CSS – so add styles to your themes stylesheet. If you check the DOM you will notice everything has IDs/classes and is easily target-able by CSS.
If you want to style your results – then its a case of customising the template that is being used for your results.
Depending on how you are displaying your results you will need one of these:
