Search multiple Post Meta Keys with one field

I have developed a University Staff Directory. Staff members often have multiple positions in multiple departments. So staff members can assign multiple departments to their profile, using a repeater custom field. I’d like for users to be able to search a department for all staff members in that department.

I have a search field so that users can look by department, but it cannot search for that department among multiple repeater custom fields. It can only return results from one custom field (one Meta Key). Is there a way of assigning multiple Meta Keys to one field? A filter or something? Thanks.

Our plugin cannot search within what ACF calls Layout field types, which includes Repeater fields. You would have to use the text search box in conjunction with Relevanssi. See this post:

Can it search through multiple fields in any capacity?

My client has a physician directory and it has 2 dropdown fields…

1. Primary Specialty
2. Secondary Specialty

They have the exact same options but need to stay separated for hierarchy (primary/secondary) for when they are displayed. The client would like a dropdown of the specialties to show results if it matches either of the 2 fields above, but not sure if/how it’s possible.

Does that make sense?
