Hi Trevor,
I need to display custom map markers based on a custom post type, and then search (search box) and filter (they have 3 taxonomies (checkbox filter)) through.
In your forums I see in the past you recommended https://www.wpgmaps.com and using your S&F shortcode method.
It seems https://www.wpgmaps.com and maybe https://www.wpmapspro.com are the best maps plugins, do you still recommend the map “mashup” method from https://www.wpgmaps.com? If so, do I just create 1 parent map in the plugin and then loop through the others via the shortcode?

You would loop the posts into an output string variable, placing a list of the map IDs into a mashup shortcode, then, when done, echo the shortcode to the page. And yes, it does need a base map. I have not explored this for some considerable time, so I haven’t anything to add at this time.
