Hi Joe
I’ve had a look through and a couple of things to note..
As a general rule I cannot support older versions of the plugin, as newer versions are created in large to fix or improve existing features – so what you need to fix your problem might be in a newer version.
That being said I’ve had a look at your settings and the only thing that would make sense is that you have your template setup wrong (there have been improvements to this in newer versions).
Basically it looks like S&F is using the template “search.php” to display your results, but it looks like this template might have been setup wrong.
I would check that search.php has a similar format to the other files in your theme – they should include things like “get_header” and “get_footer”.
Your theme may also not be using the Template Hierarchy and have its own templating system, (themes like Avada do this), in which case you need to find out how to create a page template, within your theme.

PS I don’t think there would be compatibility problems on the latest version – I would create a backup and then try upgrading.
