I’m using EDD to develop a site that has both general information posts for free, and digital downloads for sale.

How can I do a search by author where the user inputs all or part of a name into the search box. … or search for any author who has produced a post or product in a dropdown category or dropdown tag?

The search and filter text search only searches in the main content area. To use the search box to look inside other fields, you need to install Relevanssi, get it to index all fields (there is a single option box into which you type the word all, and the in the S&F form advanced settings, switch on support for Relevanssi.

Thanks for your reply. I got that to work… but I’m hoping to get a list of authors as the search results, rather than posts or products.

i.e. Suppose we’re using EDD where the products are e-books. “Show me a list of authors in the database who have written a book meeting the filters of a selected dropdown category and a selected dropdown tag.

That would be a relationship search (linking, say, the matching CPT of authors against a search in the CPT of downloads). That is not something our plugin can yet do.
