The filter works properly with custom posts, but how could I influence the sort order? I think of creating an additional custom field (“custom_sort_order”), which contains a number (between 0 and 1000). The results should then be ordered by the numbers of that field, not by date of creation or id).
Is this possible?

Yup exactly! You can order by post meta / custom field in the posts tab of your search form.
