    Hello,

There seems to be a problem when you have a form set to auto submit, and set fields to be Multi-select + “Make combobox” when using on mobile.

Basically as soon as you tap the box it automatically selects the first entry in the list and changes the results, so you don’t have time to look or select any of the other options. I’ve tried doing this super quick to try and select a different option before it changes, which you can sometimes do, BUT sadly that is not usable.

I am going to include an example link separately in a private message, as it’s temporary link for a client and I can’t place it for public view I’m afraid.

    Many thanks,
    TJ

    Hey TJ

I think the problem is with the JS library we are using for the comboboxes – can you test the comboboxes here: https://harvesthq.github.io/chosen/

I believe they also do not work well (at least on iOS)?

I will be replacing the ones powered by chosen with these in the next update:

    https://select2.github.io/

    Thanks

    Hi Ross,

Thanks ever so much for getting back so quick :).

I’ve just tested those on my mobile https://harvesthq.github.io/chosen/ and they seem to work fine.

I think the difference I’m seeing is that using this box on my website via mobile, as I mentioned literally as soon as you tap the box, the first option is selected. It doesn’t give you chance to select an option yourself. And then with auto submit on, you are then quickly taken to the results of that first option.

On the https://harvesthq.github.io/chosen/ example, when I tap the multi-select box example, nothing is automatically selected as soon as I tap it, so I have the time to select the option/s I want. Obviously the auto-submit aspect is not applicable here, BUT I think it may be that is not the issue, it’s more this auto selection of the first option which is causing the issue.

Can you see what I mean when you test mine – what do you think?

    Many thanks,
    TJ

Sorry to be a pain Ross, I also just noticed, on mobile it loses the labels of “All Sectors”, “All Categories”, etc. It instead just says “0 Items” on every box, so sadly that’s not ideal either as on mobile you wouldn’t know what each box was filtering.

    Hello again Ross,

I hope you don’t mind but I’ve been doing a bit of “playing”, basically see the link below:

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/6747202/jquery-multiselect-boxes.png

This shows your existing multi-select solution, the new one you are looking to use, AND then also I have included one more to just show you (links below).

    https://github.com/HemantNegi/jquery.sumoselect
    http://hemantnegi.github.io/jquery.sumoselect/sumoselect_demo.html

Now, the solution you use is 100% down to you, the only reason I have included this third one is because I used it previously on a custom site, and from an aesthetic/ui perspective it works ever so well. Sadly the others don’t quite look so “slick” once you select your options. You will see on that third example, you can style it all really well and in-line with the website style and you can cap the items so it swaps to say “3 items” rather than filling the box more and more so it looks a little ugly.

Now, that said and done, this one may be totally limited in other ways, and I also don’t know what the new one you are looking to use is capable of from a style/aesthetic perspective, and it may be these things can also be achieved to a certain extent too – but I just wanted share these thoughts with you, as obviously the functionality of your plugin is absolutely excellent, but if this box can be made “prettier” I think that would be great, and obviously the key point is to also resolve the issues I mentioned as sadly as it stands it isn’t working on mobile :(.

Please let me know what you think ๐Ÿ™‚

    Hey Ross,

Thanks for coming back to me – that’s great. And as I mentioned if you would like me to help test anything out – more than happy to help :).

    Hi Ross,

I just wanted to check when there might be some update on this one? Sorry to chase, it’s just due to the mobile problem on the combo-boxes it sadly won’t work for what I need it as it stands and I really don’t want to not use your plugin as that aside it’s perfect! Don’t worry I still have development time so just wanted to get an idea :).

I also spotted this related issue ticket too https://support.searchandfilter.com/forums/topic/scrollbars-missing-in-combobox-on-ipad/ and notice you are thinking of going for an option to choose which JS library to use for these multi-select dropdowns which makes sense for existing users and sounds great for variability too.

With that in mind do you think that option I suggested could be included too, you can see it working here http://www.novipropertymallorca.com on the Areas box, as you can see it has a great UI, responsive, and you can highly style it to match your site ever so well which is great, and sadly I feel I’m also struggling to do from a style perspective on the current set-up too.

As I say, more than happy to help you test, etc.

    Many thanks ๐Ÿ™‚
