I find quite hard to use the plugin you suggested, especially because I don’t want lo loose anyway the hierarchy at category level.
I have tried this plugin https://wordpress.org/plugins/custom-post-type-ui/ which allows to create custom taxonomy and easily modify several posts by using the quick edit feature in the admin panel.
Now I have another question. Can I still create a hierarchy of custom taxonomy A or would you rather create custom taxonomy A_1, custom taxonomy A_2 and custom taxonomy A_3?
Will the search form work with one parent custom taxonomy and 3 child custom taxonomies?
Let us imagine I had this category structure (all these are taxonomy terms):
Vehicle Type
–Car
–Motorcycle
–Truck
Vehicle Manufacturer
–Ford
–Honda
–FIAT
Fuel Type
–Diesel
–Petrol
–Electric
Then I would create three new Custom Taxonomies of Vehicle Type, Vehicle Manufacturer and Fuel Type.
In each of these, what were child terms now become ‘parents’ and there are no child terms. It will then work to link these different sets of terms using your choices in each post. In the form settings, you would get the fields to dynamically change options based on choices made. To do this, on the General settings tab:
Set Auto Count
(both settings) to ON
And then in the Form UI:
In each field set Hide Empty
to ON
