    There is a category that shows 7 results on categories in the wordpress control panel but only 4 in the results and when it shows the number of post next to the category on the dropdown.

    I have tried both archive and shortcode (although the problem shows on the number of results in the drop down before you hit search so i do not think it is this issue.)

    I have checked that all posts are published.

    I have rebuilt the cache.

    What else should i check to work why there are missing results?

    Hi Marcus

    I see the discrepency.

    Basically this is your settings under the Tags, Categories and Taxonomies tab.

    If you clear this out your counts will return to normal.

    Just a bit of info – if you choose to “include” items in that tab, then the results will only show items that are in those selected tags and categories.

    I guess the few items missing are those which do not belong to any of tags you have on your include list.
