I followed the denouements with success. I guess I was over-thinking the process. However, there is one piece where I would like clarification — the slide. It is clearly a Post Meta. I see the Range option in the plugin. Do I need to create custom meta boxes much in the way I created custom taxonomies? I assume it would be 2 — one for the start size and one for the ending size.

Yes the range sliders are post meta/custom fields – used for numeric / decimal data.
Depends on your setup, you can either use one field or two seperate for start / end – then you would have to choose the appropriate match mode.
Creating this is briefly covered in one of hte links I sent above.
You should make sure the values for the fields are numeric, or at least appear numeric – S&F will cast these accordingly.
