    Hi I have excluded categories both in the main settings and on the “Category” dropdown field when ticking Include Children in Parents and also using Hierarchical any category with a post is showing in the search form. . . .

    Any advice… .

    Hi Chris, if in the category field, can you click “advanced” and make sure “sync with settings” is ticked?

    Then double check the “tags, categories, taxonomies” tab and make sure everything there is as expected?

    The hierarchical stuff doesn’t work for including/excluding in the settings tab (its just to help with the display of the field), so you would have to list the children in the settings too.
