Hey there
Do you mean in the results (ie via the settings box)?
Thanks
Anonymous(Private) November 13, 2014 at 10:08 pm #7614I mean the search criteria for contextual searches
Example: http://www.superette.co.nz/mens/eyewear.htmlRoss Moderator(Private) November 13, 2014 at 10:50 pm #7616I’m not sure I follow you. How are you excluding categories? And how is this affecting your results in comparison to the way you expected?
Thanks
Anonymous(Private) November 13, 2014 at 10:55 pm #7618We haven’t set up the result yet
We’re only interested in search ui at this stage
If we exclude a parent cat ID the child cats are still selectable.
Logically all child cats would be excluded when specifying a parent?
We’re trying to understand why this would not be the case?
Ross Moderator(Private) November 13, 2014 at 11:35 pm #7625No this would depend if you wanted it hierarchical I guess – have you enabled “hierarchical”? I think this might then as you expect.
Child categories are categories in their own right so in some circumstances parents might need to be hidden and some children still shown – if the above doesn’t work then you should just be able to comma seperate ids and list the child IDs to exclude them.
Thanks
Anonymous(Private) November 14, 2014 at 12:37 am #7628It should be an option to not exclude child categories in hierarchies.
I can’t imagine why if i want a to filter with a single category, let’s say men’s t-shirts why we should have to exclude every other category.
Obviously including just the parent we want to filter within would be far quicker & simpler.
As you’ve only provided exclude – we’d have to exclude everything else. not just the parent cats we don’t want.
You can see the shortfall of your approach for this purpose – surely, or am i on my own here?
Ross Moderator(Private) November 14, 2014 at 2:29 am #7631Hey Webster
I can see what your saying about parents and children – would be nice to have a tickbox that would say include/exclude children too – I’m just giving the rationale for why it is the way it is atm.
FYI, if you have a look at the settings box, there is an “include” option. Basically in your field, goto advanced settings and tick “sync with settings” – this field will now ignore the exclude box (I plan to make this include/exclude options).
But, goto settings panel, click on “tags, categories, taxonomies”, and there you will see you can include / exclude whatever you want 🙂 Only thing is there are no considerations again for children.
The field, because you clicked “sync with settings” will follow any settings you put here.
Thanks
Ross Moderator(Private) November 14, 2014 at 4:15 am #7638Ah ok, so you’ve enabled hierarchies for your field, and when you then choose “sync with settings” this then breaks the hierarchies functionality?
