Hey there
I recently answered this question with a bit of detail ๐
https://support.searchandfilter.com/forums/topic/ajax-search-for-multiple-categories/#post-34105
Hope that helps!
Anonymous(Private) January 24, 2016 at 10:15 pm #35157Thanks Ross – I think I need even MORE detail ๐
So – how do you add details about an item? Like set the Genres or Certificates etc.
I saw you’d mentioned Custom Post type UI in the documentation. Is that used the demo site? Or is it ACF?
Thanks again!
Ross Moderator(Private) January 25, 2016 at 11:55 am #35191Hey again
Ok so the additional data / filters is are mostly just custom taxonomies:
http://www.designsandcode.com/documentation/search-filter-pro/getting-started/adding-new-fields/
So create new taxonomies, and then you can use these to filter the items on your site.
In addition, sometimes we use custom fields/post meta – because htis type of filed is better suited to numerical data – so for anything like reviews/rating/price I would use a custom field for your posts
How to create both are explained at the above link.
Thanks
Ross Moderator(Private) January 25, 2016 at 11:56 am #35192Sorry yeah, I generally use the CPT UI plugin for creating post types & taxonomies, and then I use ACF for custom fields
Thanks
Anonymous(Private) February 1, 2016 at 1:16 pm #35920hmm still having issues getting things right the way I want … we can go into more detail, once I can at least replicate your movie site.
Followed the steps here
First – It’s not filtering anything (all posts are being returned).
Second – The form resets after a selection (all the categories go to ALL). Even though I have the Maintain Search Form State checkbox on.
IF we can get the basics working, I’d like to have a custom Post Type. My site will be more like a products site than reviews. Meaning I don’t need/want to show things as dated items. It would be very similar to the site discussed in this thread. Best case scenario is I can use something like wp-members to protect the content to logged in users. But again, I can’t even get the basics working.
Ross Moderator(Private) February 1, 2016 at 11:00 pm #35980Very strange, do you have a link I could look at?
Thanks
Anonymous(Private) February 2, 2016 at 3:08 am #35993In at attempt to make the site more generic (to share here), I deleted some of the taxonomies that I created and the issue seems to have resolved.
Now – when creating a custom post type (say movies) what settings do you need to change?
Do you have to do it as an archive? Does that only apply if you have dated content?
thanks for your continued assistance with this.
Ross Moderator(Private) February 2, 2016 at 11:32 am #36017Hey there
I just had another user post an issue about a taxonomy that had a space in its name (not label) and that caused an issue – so worth thinking about that.
RE the CPT, no special settings, probably best to set the post type as having and archive an ensure it is public and think it should be fine to go ๐
Thanks
