    As far as I understand, if I use a combobox, I will be able to CSS style the dropdown menu however I want for all browsers.

    If I use select box, I won’t be able to style the dropdown options menu for all browsers.

    Is this correct?

    Essentially, yes. Styling of Select boxes is down to the browser and user profile on that browser, whereas comboboxes in our plugin use either chosen or select2 scripts are make it the style accessible through custom css.

    thanks trevor, is there a way or maybe as a future addition, an option to disable CSS of the plugin, so I can build the CSS from scratch?

    You can dequeue the stylesheet in your theme’s functions.php, I think. But I have asked the developer as well.
