Custom Initial Result

Is it possible to display an message initially on the results page rather than all posts? We have a bunch of images loading as results but rather than loading all of the images we’d like to have a message or image display instructing the visitor to select from the options on the left of the page to view results. The text/graphic would only display IF no options are selected. If an option is selected the results would display like normal.

Is this possible?

This is not possible yet but you could achieve a similar effect with a custom landing page.

For example, you could create a page with those initial results/custom message that you desire – and add the search form to the sidebar.

Then once the user submit s the search form – they will be redirected to the proper search results page showing their selections after filtering.

Is this what you mean?

Would that work if I am using the Ajax method? The page with the widget..

Yes it could.. kinda…

If you are using ajax, it will still work, however the initial search will be a redirect and won’t use ajax.

There is a way to use ajax between the pages, but you must be using the archive method with ajax (not shortcode).

If you are using this method, then both your landing page and search page must contain your results container – if the landing page has the results container then there will be no redirect and the results will be loaded into this container – it is important that the layout of the results page and the landing page match (except for the results themselves).
