    As a thought, back in your theme, what happens if you set it up as a purpose made combined search and search results page, using our shortcode method (don’t worry about the style of it for now):

    No luck when trying to use a designated shortcode page.

    Same results as before, with the Queries by Component showing that it is still trying to order by post date.
