Hi,
I’m suddenly getting this error (I’m on 2.4.5 Search & Filter Pro), sort of out of the blue. This is definitely a blocking issue. Page functions normally when plugin is deactivated.
I haven’t updated this plugin for quite a while. Is this resolved in 2.5?
The only reason I haven’t continued my licensing is 1) I didn’t need support until now, and 2) it appeared for a very long time that the plugin was no longer being developed, with no new updates or features. Is this plugin moving forward?
I saw another post regarding this fairly recently
https://support.searchandfilter.com/forums/topic/problem-about-the-search/
but unfortunately their was no discussion, it was simply moved to private. That’s not great for the community in my opinion, and certainly just increases your support load. Is it possible to address it publically this time? Thanks
Trevor(Private) January 31, 2020 at 6:35 pm #232789I am sorry, but this is an issue that needs to be addressed after you have renewed the licence.
I have not generally seen an issue like this, so without a thorough investigation of your site, I cannot be sure of the cause, and thus not know whether it would persists should you update the plugin.
Our focus for some time has been to release a new version of the plugin, V3, which is now a few months away, so development has been continuing all this time.
Anonymous(Private) January 31, 2020 at 11:37 pm #232802Can you even respond to what was the cause of the other post that I mentioned? Again, without public threads, there is no way for others to benefit. It feels like the intent is to continually force re-licensing and I do understand that need for continuing revenue. But in this situation, you’re asking me to take a leap of faith without any assurances, even though you seem to have addressed this issue before in private. If there was a previous satisfactory resolution, then I’ll have some confidence in re-upping my license.
Again, the reason I didn’t was the apparent lack of ongoing development, so you really can’t blame me for that. Just need some assurances and then I’m happy to relicense.
Trevor(Private) February 1, 2020 at 7:09 am #232808Posts are generally private if the poster is passing information of no relevance to other users or passing private logins or contact details, or site details that are private. It is the nature of this forum that it is used by developers, who would not want to make public details of their clients sites.
My experience is that, whilst a description of a problem often looks like one you might be experiencing, when examined is a different issue.
So, that thread you refer to I have made public so you can read it.
Here is another thread where the user found a way to resolve it (no posts were private):
In this one, they had an incorrect version of jQuery loading from a different plugin:
Do they help?
Anonymous(Private) February 3, 2020 at 9:44 pm #232978Trevor,
What a goose chase. I appreciate your making that private post public, I had actually seen it elsewhere I believe. Had tried disabling/enabling the plugins with no remedy. Had also seen the jquery 3.x thread, and that was not it either.
Finally realized that the search and filter plugin was part of a sidebar that had not been properly populated because the meta-box was hidden. The resulting empty variable kicked the error out in the plugin code, making it appear that the plugin was the culprit.
This was a facepalm realization, since I normally fill out that metabox because it is never hidden. I must have accidentally done that recently.
I very much appreciate your assistance. In good faith, I will be relicensing very soon next time I have another plugin to relicense, it’s just easier when done two or 3 at a time since I have to get someone to purchase for me with an official credit card.
Thanks very much and my apologies for the confusion.
