In the Settings & Defaults panel under Post Meta, I have set my particular form to only show results if a certain meta field equals a certain value. That’s working, so hooray!
But the filtering criteria I use is still counting the posts that aren’t appearing. So if I turn post counts on for my filtering criteria, then the counts are wrong, because they’re counting the items that are being excluded by that meta exclusion I set up. Now, I’d be OK with turning those post counts off, but I still need those options to disappear from the list if there are zero matching posts in them…and they’re still appearing even if the only posts in them are filtered out by that post meta exclusion.
By way of example, my Locations list will have “Atlanta” in it, and with the post count turned on it’ll say “Atlanta [1],” but if you choose it then you get an empty results set because the only Atlanta post was filtered out by the criteria I set in the settings.
Does this make sense? I’m a little fried after tackling this for a while, and a lot of the vocabulary is very similar, so if I’ve said something in an ambiguous way I’ll try to correct it. I really appreciate your help!

You’re totally right.
The way the counts work, and the hide empty option is based on WordPress internal counts – so if you head to say categories in WP dashboard, where it lists all the categorues (posts -> categories) you will see that hte counts etc are used from here – something that WordPress handles and updates.
V2.0 of the plugin will hopefully released in the next month – which has exactly what you are after – so the counts will be accurate, in addition to that, as you choose options in your search form other options are hidden that would yield no results.
Thanks
