Add Class to search form item

Is it possible to add a custom type to a search form item?

My goal is to have a Taxonomy check box for desktop users and a Combo box for mobile users.

I thought I could just create two search form items and hide one depending on what size browser the user was using. The two items share the same class so I cannot do that with CSS.

Any other ideas?

It isn’t possible, yet. It will be possible in V3, due in a few months. At the moment, you can only have one form to be for both mobile and desktop, and the field types cannot be changed.
