    Hello,

I have been to the “Tags, Categories, & Taxonomies” tab under the Settings and Defaults section and I’ve tried to both exclude and include specific tags, however, this will only work if I select “sync with settings” when using the Tag template. Of course, when I “sync with settings” I have no other option but to include all the tags selected under Settings and Defaults as options on all my filter forms.

My main goal is to include a set of tags that will be specific to the search and filter form. I don’t want to have to manually select every single tag for the exclude option in each Tag form every time I add a tag to my website.

    Can you help me?

    Thanks,
    Jacob

I am not entirely certain that I understand you. By selecting tags terms to include, only those will show on your form. If you add new tags to the posts, these will not show on the form, unless you edit the form. This is normal. Maybe you want to have a separate set of tags. Ones to be used in the normal way, and ones for the search form filter usage? So, if you added one of these ‘filterable’ tags in the post, it would automatically add itself to the form (saving you a lot of work)?

The problem is that when I add new tags, they ARE showing in the form, even though I didn’t tell it to include them.

I’m primarily using multiple “Tags” fields.

I did find a way for the search form to recognize that I’ve chosen to include a specific set of tags, but this only works if I mark the “sinc with settings” checkbox in the “Tag” search field. If I click this checkbox (sync with settings) I will not be able to use the exclude option listed directly above (This exclude option is not to be confused with the one in the defaults and settings section). I need the exclude option listed in individual tag field to differentiate certain topics. Hopefully that explanation is a littler better.

And yes, I want a separate set of tags specifically for this particular search and filter form.

mmm. OK. Do these Filter Tags have to be tags, or could they be a custom taxonomy?

Is it possible that you point me in the right direction of creating a custom taxonomy? I downloaded a plugin, Custom Post Type UI, and it’s really over my head. I’m not sure how to get it to work with Search & Filter Pro or if I even need it to do the custom taxonomy. Please help. Thanks.

Great to speak with you Jacob. It transpired all we needed to do was to add custom taxonomies to Posts using CPT UI, and use the Taxonomy Switcher plugin (which, when you are done you can remove) to move the different classes of tags into the new taxonomies. Then, in the form, remove the tag fields and replace them with these new taxonomy fields.

Can I lose this thread now?
