Hi, I’ve just purchased Search & Filter Pro and I’m really impressed with how comprehensive and powerful it is. But unfortunately no matter what I try, I can’t get my search results to display, I can only get no results at all or every post returned. I’m nearly certain it’s a theme-related issue with the Valenti theme that I’m using, since I’ve tried switching themes (to the very basic Twenty Fourteen), and the plugin works just fine with that, with search results being produced as they should. I’ve also tried disabling all of my other plugins to try to make the plugin work with Valenti, but that had no effect. I’ve read through the forum and tried other possible solutions (including ticking the settings for “Maintain Search Form State” and “Force is_search to always be true?”, as well as setting up a new custom template for the results called search-filter.php), but nothing seems to work, and I’m out of ideas.
My site is currently under construction and hidden, but I wonder if you might be able to see how Valenti processes its search results at the theme’s demo site at http://valenti.cubellthemes.com/?s=test. I could also send you the code from its search.php file, though I have a feeling there must be something else going on that’s causing the conflict and not allowing any results to come through to the results page.
Just FYI, I’ve also tried the “Using a shortcode” method for displaying the results (and putting that shortcode on its own page, then putting that page URL in the Template Options section), but still nothing. And I don’t believe it’s a caching issue, because the correct post counts are being displayed next to each category and taxonomy in the drop down menus on the search form, but for some reason everything is getting lost between there and the results page.
Thanks a lot for your help!

I took a look and I suspect that the Valenti theme is doing something weird on the results loop and that is overriding the S&F results code.
I can see that you included the Search on the Home page using a shortcode.
Is it possible you can set this up as a result shortcode too? It would require you to make a results page and have the results shortcode on that instead of the main content?
Anonymous(Private) August 2, 2016 at 7:02 am #53057Thanks a lot – I tried again setting up a separate page with the results shortcode, and it works! I had tried this before but it didn’t work – at least I didn’t think it did, but it could be that I hadn’t waited for the cache to be rebuilt after changing the search parameters. Anyway, it works now, so thanks! And I even got it to work in the home page sidebar with a little bit of fancy footwork – using the Pages In Widgets plugin, I was able to put the search results page into the home page sidebar widget.
I actually have one more unrelated question, about the Enable Auto Count feature. I’d like to use my ratings as one of the search parameters, which I realized could be done by using the rating value in the Post Meta. But I’m running into a slight problem because not every post has a rating, so what’s happening is that the post counts in the various taxonomies are showing as they should in the drop-downs when the search form is first displayed, but then once anything is selected in the drop-downs for any taxonomy, the plugin is not only weeding out everything that doesn’t match that taxonomy value, but also everything that doesn’t have a rating. For example, in the Format section, when the page is first loaded, the post count next to Netflix is 127. But if you actually select Netflix, the post count suddenly drops to 72, because only 72 of the posts have ratings. Is there any way around that? I know it’s possible to turn off the Enable Auto Count, but it’s a fantastic feature that I’d love to use, if there’s a way to make the plugin ignore the fact that some posts don’t have ratings and shouldn’t be disregarded in the post counts.
Thanks again!
