    Hi

I would need to login as an admin and see what is going on. You can use a Private reply to send them to me.

Not sure where the bug for this lies, but in order for her to show up, she has to have an opinion published also. I made one called Test with her as the author.

    Hmmm… That’s bizarre!

She’s listed as a Co-Author (using Co-Authors Plus), but so are Joe Zammit-Lucia, Nick Silver and Corrado Poli on the 13th June Test Work Doc, and they show up fine…

Waaaaait… No, it’s starting to come together in my mind now. Those three also have opinion posts (where they’re attributed as the PRIMARY author for the default “post” post type).

So it seems they’re COUNTED as being a contributing author, and return as having posts, but that “Hide Empty” only shows them when they’re listed as the primary author on the default “post” post type?

Seems to me to be the way that the plugin returns “empty” fields for Taxonomies (specifically, in this case, Co-Authors, stored under the “author” taxonomy). Any chance you guys can escalate this as a bug and look into it further?

Ah, you see what I saw then? But where the issue lies is beyond my skills, so Ross will need to look at it, so I will assign this to him. It MIGHT be our plugin, but it is equally as likely to be the plugin you are using.

Entirely possible. But I’d hazard a guess that if it’s finding her 1 post and failing to recognise it as a populated field it’s to do with your filters. That said, it could be a mix of both – the way CAP stores its count data and the way you guys return it, but either way if Ross could look into it I’d be eternally grateful! 🙂

Thanks so much for your help, Trevor! Have a great day!

Try a test then. make another opinion test from her, and see what total posts the search form shows. If it shows 2, you are right. If it shows one, then (as that it is the right number of works) ….

Posted two new ‘Opinion’ posts (default “post” post type) – one with Polly as primary author, one with her as a secondary/contributing author.

Number of opinion posts shows as 3.

    Polly's Posts

Removed the posts with her as primary author and just left her as a secondary/contributing author on one post, and the number shows correctly.

Let me know if you need any further information to investigate.

I’ll leave the temp login active if you need it!

So, just to clarify what was said above (correct me if I’m wrong, Trevor!)

This seems to work fine on the default “posts” post type. Authors listed here are displayed properly for both “Show all” and “Hide Empty”.

Authors also display properly for the “work” custom post type as long as “Hide Empty” isn’t ticked.

But when “Hide Empty” is ticked for the “work” custom post type, authors with “work” posts return as “empty” and get hidden UNLESS they’re listed as an author (either primary or contributing) of an “opinion” (the default “post” post type).

I could be wrong, but from the tests we’ve done above that appears to be what’s happening. The number of posts/count seems to be right for both, but when “Hide Empty” is checked for the “work” post type it hides any author who doesn’t have an opinion post.
