I know what the issue is, but couldn’t figure out how to entitle it in writing! Here goes:
On the search page, we are using the sidebar widget that is set to display the SPECIFIC “categories” & “tags” (custom taxonomy “topics” & “ages”, in our case) for that search page (see: Discipline Search Page), which works just fine.
AFTER making a selection, the results page returns a “standard” S&FP widget with ALL “categories” & “tags” (custom taxonomy “topics” & “ages”, in our case)(see: Discipline Results Page).
Here’s a video screencast demonstrating the unwanted behavior.
How can I limit the results page to maintain the specific “categories” & “tags” (custom taxonomy “topics” & “ages”, in our case) of the original search page?
Ross Moderator(Private) December 17, 2015 at 10:08 pm #32452Hi Steven
I’m afraid its a bit hard to follow or I’m missing something.
It sounds like you are asking the following:
When a user performs a search on this page:
http://yourvillage.staging.wpengine.com/discipline/That the user selection is maintained across to the results page:
http://yourvillage.staging.wpengine.com/?sfid=1568&_sft_topic=peaceful-parentingHowever, when I do this, it seems to work as expected.
As I can’t see the URLs in that video its pretty confusing to follow :/
Thanks
Ross Moderator(Private) December 31, 2015 at 12:35 am #33073Hi Steven
Thanks for your patience. So finally I see the issue.
On your disciplines page I see a search form in the sidebar, which only shows discipline related filters.
http://yourvillage.staging.wpengine.com/discipline/
If I take a look, this Search Form has and ID of
1568
.However, once you submit this form, you are redirected to the correct results page, as we can see the ID remains in the URL:
http://yourvillage.staging.wpengine.com/?sfid=1568&_sft_topic=discipline
The issue here is, if you take a look at this second link, and the search form in the RIGHT bar, you will see it has an ID of
161
.This means, your search results template for the search form ID
1568
, is including the wrong search form in the sidebar.Which I think is why you get such a strange experience, its hard to see, but basically you are seeing some other form, that doesn’t have all those filter restrictions setup.
Hope that helps!
