    Hi,

I am trying to apply the plugin to an existing post category page, then apply post meta and custom taxonomy search, so therefore filtering the results from one specific category.

So my post category is a list of restaurant reviews within a city, and I’m trying to refine that search, by a review score (post meta) and district (custom taxonomy).

So there a couple of related parts to my question. Is searching within a post category possible? I’m applying the code to a blog post template, but what is happening is the plugin is applying the search not to the category itself, but is behaving as if it is applying a search to the whole all of the page and post content within the site. It is also outputting those results to search.php (as is set by default). I know you can set it up to output to the post template, but this results in a stylistically broken page in my theme.

Besides the issues above, it doesn’t matter what criteria I add to the plugin it’s returning the same results which all have a category of ‘sticky post’ – I believe this is what they have in common. This is not the WordPress ‘sticky post’ but my category, as the theme doesn’t support sticky posts.

So really my question is I have I misunderstood the scope of the plugin. Should I be able to refine a post category and if so why aren’t my filters being applied?

    Hope this makes sense!

    Many thanks

    Chris

    Hey Christopher

What you are looking for will be an option coming soon to the plugin – so your searches stay within your category archive or taxonomy archive.

For now, the way S&F works is to redirect all searches, to a specific Search Page.

    So its not possible.

If you wanted S&F to pick up the category of the current archive, and apply that to searches you will need to add a category field to your search form, and tick the options provided in the general settings tab: Detect defaults from current page

Now, if you didn’t want a user to be able to choose a category, you could hide the category field from the search form using CSS, so searches would “invisibly” use the current category – its a bit hacky and as I mentioned there are some improvements to this coming.

    Hope that helps.

RE your other question – S&F should certainly be able to refine criteria – take a look at the demo:

    http://demo.designsandcode.com/sfpro-movie-reviews/search/

The Genre field and Certificate field are both custom taxonomies – which should behave in the exact same way as category fields.

If you are having issues with this then please send me a link and I’ll take a look.

    Thanks

    Hey Chris

So sorry, I missed you second question here – I thought it was just the ETA I needed to get back to you on.

Are you still having the results not changing issue? What is your display method, in the display results tab?

RE the ETA, I would hope its before the new year but can’t make any guarantee.

    Thanks
