Is it possible to dictate the order of post appearance based on relevance, when the word being searched occurs commonly within other terms? We have a client running a search for Rail, when hundreds of posts contain the word trail – there’s a specific post that begins with the word Rail, but doesn’t show until the 2nd page of results or father down the list depending on relevance selections etc. IS there any way for us to alter this output to push a specific result to the top, or otherwise present more relevant results, so the post appears on the first page of results?

You may be able to do this using the free Relevanssi plugin. I will explain. Our plugin does not directly allow you to alter how text searches work. The Search & Filter Pro Text Search field uses the standard WordPress search, so looks only in the Post Title and Content, and in only their ‘standard’ way. To help you control this better, on the form’s Advanced settings tab you will see 2 settings for Relevanssi (one of which is Relevance).

The documentation for this is here:

    https://www.designsandcode.com/documentation/search-filter-pro/3rd-party/relevanssi/

You would need to install and activate the free Relevanssi plugin as well.

Then set Relevanssi up and build its index (make sure it is indexing the desired post types, custom fields AND any taxonomy that you want to search).

Then, in our form setup, on the Posts tab, you can sort by Relevance (this will not work unless you have Relevanssi installed, setup and activated, and both of the Relevanssi settings enabled on the form’s Advanced tab).
