Hi there,
I am having a similar issue to the below Topic. I am looking to create an eCommerce site with a huge range of products, all needing to go under various categories and ‘sub categories’. I understand the proposed solution, however the only difference is I am using WP Product Gallery.
Using the WP Product Gallery product manager to create the products, that becomes the Custom Post Type. So I believe that could be an obstacle to the solution suggested in the thread.
It would be great to get your opinion on that before I attempt it and potentially fail.
Many thanks,
JordanTrevor(Private) September 28, 2020 at 11:57 am #261023Thanks. I can see that it is at an embryonic stage, that is good.
How many drop down select boxes (with long lists I am guessing, so select boxes would be best) did you envisage)?
Generally, it is better to have one taxonomy for the parent, and another for children.
So, Product Category maybe for the parent terms, but a new custom taxonomy for sub-category. That way, as the user selects the parent, the sub-category field filters to shows only the relevant terms for that parent.
Trevor(Private) September 28, 2020 at 4:05 pm #261094Are the choices going to be pretty much fixed sub categories to fixed parent categories? Getting it working in the admin product editor page is not quite as simple if you wanted it really slick.
You want to use ACF? I am not sure I would for these terms. I would use CPT UI to make a custom (for the sub category) taxonomy. But then you would not get the choice list, so ACF would give you that, but then you want to use category at all?
Setting this up in ACF could get quite complicated, and isn’t really covered in our support.

I am happy to take your advice and use CPT UI if that is the best way to do it. (I haven’t used the plugin before)
I am installing this now and will take a look and see how I get on.
Thanks,

Still not sure on how to set this up. I have installed CPT UI.
Are you able to create this below instance using CPT UI for me?
Parent category> Health and Fitness
Sub Categories> Vitamins, HealthOnce I can see how it is done, I will be able to do the rest myself, really hope this is covered in the support.
Many thanks,
