Forums Forums Search & Filter Pro Include Children in Parents not working on Category

I have the Genesis theme and am using Search Pro. I’m using shortcode for search/results and have configured the search/results pages and have tried with and without ajax and is_search.

I configure a search to use Search/Category and to include Include Children in Parents. My Categories can go 3 or 4 levels deep.

When I choose parent category “Florida Used Boats & Gear” for example and search on phrase ‘gheenoe’ I return no results. I actually have to drill down to Florida Used Boats & Gear->Daytona Beach->Skiffs/Flats Boats to return a result.

This should return results with the Include Children in Parents selected, yes?

I’ve disabled all plugins with the same results and the functions.php of the genesis theme is fairly generic with nothing about search.

    Please help.

What you are saying sounds correct and possibly a bug.

I’m pretty confident all this has been tested before though…

I’ll look over this again in the 2.0 release and fix if necessary.

Okay…this is a deal breaker for search results and using category in the search. Any ETA on 2.0?

Eta is next couple of weeks likely – depends when I get my next run at it without other work interfering.

I will first need to investigate the bug though – no other users’ have reported it so there is a chance its related specifically to something in your environment.

    Thanks

I did some digging and it looks like the post has to expressly be “checked” for both the parent, sub-category AND the sub-sub-category for it to be shown. It simply cannot exist underneath in it’s sub or sub-sub-category. That is your bug I think.

Any chance you can confirm and provide a quick fix?

I’ve just tested locally on the WP 2014 theme and there is no bug here – you can select a child, on its own and results just for that sub category will show.

I tested 4 levels deeps, using both dropdown & checkbox, and with both the “hierarchy” option enabled/disabled.

I would suggest to create a test on a clean install, and ensure you are using the latest version of S&F (1.4.3).

One idea could be that you have some includes/excludes in the “tags, categories and taxonomies” tab that are causing unexpected (but probably logical) results.

    Thanks
