    Hi,

I’m using Search and Filter on a Custom Post Type “cards” using Custom Fields (such as “Author”, “Year”, “Color”).

    1. How do I organize a field that contains color (e.g. red, blue, yellow) to hold not only one but several values, e.g. a card can be red and yellow?

    2. How do I search not only through the main content of a CPT but also through certain custom fields, e.g. Author, Year but not color?

I know these are pretty basic questions, and I’m grateful if you could direct me to the according documentation…

Did you use ACF plugin to create the custom fields?

When you say search, do you mean with the simple Search text entry field?

    Trevor,

yes I use ACF and I’m lost, how to set up the field in ACF and correspondingly in S&F to hold and search multiple values.

    Thanks,

    Francis

You can only have multiple values in a field in ACF IF they are a pre-defined list and you use a Select field set to Multiple Values. Otherwise, you must use a custom taxonomy.

    Thanks.

the other question was, how I can include the custom fields to be searched using the main search field of Search and Filter?

The search field behaves in the same way as a normal WordPress search. If you want it to be different (and this will affect all text searches on your site, not just in Search & Filter) install the free Relevanssi plugin and set that up to search what you want (you can specify individual custom fields).

I am not sure how much you can exclude from the search, or whatever settings it has. The guide is here:

Thanks a lot for guiding me through this. This were the basic ideas that I needed.
