    You are correct. Other users have asked a similar question, but wanted month and year combo select boxes. The way they achieved this was by setting up a custom field with data like:

    1712 or 210712

    For December 2017

    (make it easiest to sort). In ACF, if this is a select dropdown you can give these labels as well.

    Once you have an ACF field, you can add this to the form UI in a Post Meta object.
